Asked by: Bharath VS We’ve only had Maruti cars for many years and are now planning to get an SUV. I’m thinking of moving away from Maruti, and I like the Honda Elevate since it looks tough and imposing, but I’m concerned about its NVH and mileage. Is it a good buy? If your driving style is largely sedate, that is, you're gentle on the accelerator and don't rev the engine often, the Honda Elevate's refinement shouldn't be much of a concern. The Honda Elevate mileage is around 9kpl in the city and 13kpl on the highway, which is lower than models like the Maruti Grand Vitara mild-hybrid and Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol. This has also been covered in our midsize SUV comparison: Honda Elevate vs rivals. So, if your purchase is solely based on fuel efficiency, there are more efficient options. Otherwise, the Honda Elevate is a capable, no-nonsense midsize SUV and one that we can easily recommend. Asked by: SACHIN YEOLE I am looking to upgrade to a premium SUV. I drove my friend's Compass AT Diesel in the Leh area and was highly impressed with its performance. Compared to the Seltos and Creta Petrol AT variants, is it worth buying the Diesel AT Compass, since the delta cost is significant? I am also confused between the new Thar Roxx and the Compass. My monthly running will be around 1,000 km (city and highway) for a family of four. Please advise, considering ride and handling, maintenance cost, resale value, and the outlook for diesel cars. The Jeep Compass' ride and handling balance are outstanding, and it feels a lot more surefooted. However, its maintenance costs will be higher, and its resale value won't be as strong as that of the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos either. The Hyundai Creta price for the Petrol EX(O) CVT variant starts at ₹14.37 lakh, the Kia Seltos price for the Petrol HTK+ (O) IVT variant at ₹15.75 lakh, whereas the Jeep Compass price for the Longitude (O) AT variant starts at ₹26.83 lakh (all starting ex-showroom prices for automatic variants). So, pick the Jeep Compass over the Korean midsize SUVs only if you give more weightage to driving pleasure over other factors and the price. In comparison, the Thar Roxx's driving manners are nowhere near as sophisticated as the other cars you've mentioned, so unless you want to go off-road or you're enamoured by its butch image, you could consider the Mahindra XUV700, which is a better, more rounded family car. You could consider the petrol-automatic version since your usage is limited. Can’t decide which car to buy? Ask our experts and get answers to all your car related queries. Ask experts
