Asked by: Pralay Debroy I am planning on replacing my 2012 Honda Civic SMT (85k on odometer). Usage will be 5k Kms per year, looking at a petrol automatic for 75% city driving, and want the flexibility of a 7 seater (when in-laws and nephews/nieces come once in a while). I have an on-road budget of Rs. 27 Lakhs. Co-registration. Zeroed in on the Hyundai Alcazar DCT and the MG Hector Plus CVT, confused about which one to buy as an upgrade for my Civic, considering my budget. Since you're coming from a Civic, you might lean towards the Hyundai Alcazar, purely for its stronger performance and relatively sportier gearbox. Its suspension also feels stiffer than the MG's, making it handle a bit better. The MG Hector Plus, on the other hand, is smoother to drive, albeit a bit dull, and delivers better ride comfort due to its soft suspension. Neither car has a particularly spacious third row of seats. Hence, their last row is only good for occasional use. If you will use the third row more often to ferry adults, you could consider the Mahindra XUV700, which also delivers stronger performance than these two. Asked by: Dhanoo I want to change my car. I primarily drive within the city, dropping kids off at school or running short errands. Have driven around 76k km in the current car in 12+ years. Usage may slightly increase as I may do a 500km+/- trip every month. So that's like 6k km more per year. So, all around 10k to 12k km per year will be my usage, of which half or more will be city. Which car should I buy? I am more inclined towards foreign brands with good safety ratings. Open to suggestions. Should I also look at used cars? Without knowing your budget, it is difficult to recommend a specific car. Based on your usage, which is primarily city driving with occasional longer trips, annual mileage of 10,000 to 12,000 km, and a preference for foreign brands with good safety ratings, you can consider both new and used cars. Used cars from reputable foreign brands can be a good option if you want a premium feel within a reasonable budget. Can’t decide which car to buy?
