I am planning to purchase an electric vehicle (EV). I have a weekly commute of approximately 600 km and no home charging facility. Fortunately, there is a 60 kW DC fast charging station with four charging ports right next to my house. Based on this situation, I have two main concerns: 1. Will DC fast charging every two days negatively impact the long-term health of the EV battery? 2. Given my high weekly mileage and reliance on public fast charging, is it a wise and practical decision?
You haven’t mentioned your budget. To answer your questions, we recommend charging the battery up to 90 percent at most during DC fast charging. Most manufacturers also advise performing a full slow AC charge cycle after every 3-4 DC fast charge cycles to help balance the battery cells and maintain long-term health.Even though you’ll rely on public charging, an EV can still be economical if you don’t mind frequent visits to the charging station. You’ll likely spend ₹24-28 per unit, translating to a running cost of about ₹3-4 per km. With around 2,500 km of monthly usage, your savings will still be significant compared to a similar petrol or diesel car.

My average monthly driving is about 700 km, mostly on highways. My budget is around ₹20 lakh. My choices are the Alcazar, XUV700 AX3, or any other option you suggest.
Obviously, with the Hyundai Alcazar, you can get a more feature-rich, higher variant compared to the Mahindra XUV700. The trade-off is that the XUV700 is a larger SUV with more powerful engine options, so depending on what you prefer, you can go for either.Another car worth considering is the Kia Carens Clavis, which is a better seven-seater than both the options you’ve shortlisted. It shares its engines with the Alcazar but is a more practical choice that might suit your needs better.

I want a comfortable SUV with low maintenance and good driving pleasure. I am 70 years old and drive myself. My average monthly running is 500 km. For local driving, I use my Santro Sportz. Which SUV should I buy now? I’m considering the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Victoris. Please advise.
Between the two, we recommend the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is newer than the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, offers more features, and, being a Maruti Suzuki, has wider dealer coverage and easier service accessibility.

Which car is better between the Mercedes GLE 300d or the BMW X5 xLine D?
While similarly priced as the entry-level versions of their respective model ranges, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 300d and BMW X5 xDrive30d xLine take two different approaches. The Mercedes-Benz uses a less powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, while the BMW retains the 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine. However, while the BMW sacrifices some features in this variant owing to the lesser xLine trim, the Mercedes comes in the fully loaded AMG Line trim. Thus, if you drive yourself even occasionally, the powerful 6-cylinder BMW will likely be the better choice for you, but if you're mainly chauffeur-driven, the Mercedes-Benz with its greater creature comforts and more spacious back seat is the better bet.

I am confused between the top-end Mahindra XEV 9e and the Tata Harrier EV. I am keen on buying an Indian EV only. Both seem like very good cars and are great to drive, which is why I am confused.
While both are very competent offerings, the Mahindra XEV 9e has a slight edge over the Tata. Its light steering and tight turning radius make it surprisingly easy to drive for its size; the front seats are a bit comfier, and its real-world range will be healthier, too.Yes, it is slightly more expensive than the Tata Harrier EV, but it is worth the stretch.

Which EV should I buy under a ₹30 lakh budget? My daily city use is about 30 km, and once a week I travel around 150 km. I’m considering the Windsor Pro or Harrier EV. Is there any better option than these two?
There are quite a few options within your budget. Since you can go up to Rs 30 lakh, apart from the cars you mentioned, we would suggest considering the Hyundai Creta Electric or the Mahindra XEV 9e.The Hyundai Creta EV is a very polished product; it is effortless to drive, offers excellent ride comfort, and feels like a regular car that just happens to be electric, making it a safe and sensible choice. If you want something a bit more exciting, the Mahindra XEV 9e is worth a look. It feels genuinely quick, and the larger battery pack provides a longer range.

I’m planning to buy my first car. I will use it mostly for intercity travel with my family of five adults, including me. As a first-time driver, which car would be a good choice within a ₹12–15 lakh budget?
As per your requirements and budget, you should choose between the Maruti Suzuki Brezza or the Mahindra XUV 3XO.The Maruti Brezza has a good amount of space for five adults, and being a new driver, you'll appreciate its light controls and how easy it is to drive. Meanwhile, the XUV 3XO has a wider cabin and thus offers more room for rear passengers.

I am planning to buy an SUV. How is the MG Hector?
The MG Hector is currently offered with two engine options - a 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel. What’s nice is that it can even be had with a third row of seats (Hector Plus).Sure, it isn’t the most engaging SUV to drive, and the turbo-petrol engine can be thirsty. But if you’re looking for a refined SUV that’s big in size, big on features, and offers a comfortable and spacious cabin, the MG Hector is hard to beat.

Hi, Hitesh Shah here from Mumbai. I want to buy my first car and I love the MG Hector Plus. Can I go ahead with it? My running is about 500 km per month.
The MG Hector Plus offers great value for money, especially considering its size at this price. The first two rows are extremely spacious. The third row, however, is best suited for short city trips, ideal for kids or shorter adults. If you’re looking for a more versatile 7-seater, you could also consider the Kia Carens Clavis, which comes at a similar price. Kia Carens Clavis price starts with ₹13.12 lakh (on-road) for the base model in Mumbai.
