Asked by: Balasubramanian I travel about 60 km daily in Mumbai traffic (Navi Mumbai to Andheri), with monthly highway trips and an annual trip to Kerala. I currently own a Skoda Rapid diesel automatic (1,00,000 km in 6 years). I feel an SUV will give a better driving position (having used the Ford Ecosport for 5 years). I’m considering the Honda Elevate AT for smooth driving, ride comfort, and boot space. My budget is ₹18-20 lakh. Please advise. While the Honda Elevate is comfortable over bad roads, the Hyundai Creta is the stronger choice in this budget and segment.It offers more space and also has a diesel-automatic option. If you prefer petrol, the Creta’s petrol-CVT is excellent and will be a better buy.

I’m a sedate driver and prefer a not-too-big car with good mileage, strong safety, and easy maintenance. I’d like to avoid Kia, Honda, Nissan, and probably Renault due to showroom/service concerns in my city. Between the Tata Punch, Maruti Fronx, Maruti Baleno, and Renault Kiger, which should I choose - or do you have other compact, easy-to-service recommendations? Given your requirements and budget, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx would be a good option for you. It's got an efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine, it comes with 6 airbags, and it will be stress-free to maintain as well. Alternatively, you could also consider the Hyundai Exter at this price point.

Please suggest at least two options and the recommended variant. The best option for the mentioned commute would be the Mahindra Bolero Neo. It has a strong, smooth, and powerful diesel engine, a comfortable ride on B-roads and highways, and easy seating thanks to the high seating position.The second option would be the Mahindra XUV 3XO, the MX3 Pro variant with the petrol engine and manual gearbox. It is also easy to drive, but the diesel-engine versions would be out of budget.We recommend the Bolero Neo as the preferred choice.

Asked by: Ankur Prakash I’m a first-time car buyer with a budget of ₹11-12 lakh. I need a 5-seater family car with good mileage, comfort, and low maintenance over 10 years. I’ve shortlisted the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, and Nissan Magnite. The Magnite has most of the important features and Nissan service feedback is good in Hyderabad; the Nexon seems to offer the least kit, while the XUV 3XO may compromise mileage. Should I choose the Magnite (is it too underpowered?), or pick one of the others? While the Nissan Magnite is a good choice, the XUV 3XO would be the better buy. It has a better rear seat with more space and has a more comfortable ride between the two. The engine is also smoother and has good performance. Efficiency will not be too far off from the Magnite, so it's worth the premium.

Which car is good around ₹12 lakh? The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a solid option around ₹12 lakh. Its AMT gearbox provides hassle-free city driving, while the engine delivers good performance and great efficiency on highways.For the city, the best transmission is a CVT, but while it is smooth, it is not as efficient as an AMT or DCT.

I’m deciding between the Maruti Brezza Smart Hybrid and the Maruti Fronx - both seem similar. My budget is ₹15 lakh. Which of the two is the better choice for my needs? If fuel efficiency is your main concern, the Maruti Fronx is the better buy. The Brezza is bigger and has a more powerful petrol engine that is not as efficient as the Fronx. Another option is the Kia Syros, which gets a diesel engine as well. It has more features, a better interior and cabin space, with the low running costs of a diesel.
